Where can I find official records in Adams County?

Birth, marriage and death records are available from the Adams County Clerk's Office.  Land records are located in the Adams County Recorder's Office.  Wills and Probate records are located in the Circuit Clerk's Office. All of these offices are in the Adams County Courthouse, 507 Vermont, Quincy, Illinois 62301.

All the information found on this website has been supplied by volunteers.  Some transcribe biographies and obituaries, some send copies of their family photographs, some share their entire family history.

How can I contribute information to this site?

It's easy to contribute information to the Adams County ILGenWeb Project.  Just email the Adams County Coordinator and mention what you would like to share.  Text and digital images can be emailed.  Hard copies can be mailed and transcribed or scanned after they arrive.  All kinds of historical and genealogical information is sought. No scrap of information is too small.

I'm planning a research trip to Adams County.  Where should I plan to visit?

Start your research in Adams County at the Quincy Public Library. You'll find the library has a very nice genealogy section that includes lots of family histories along with a Death Index, microfilmed census images, local newspapers on microfilm and a friendly, helpful staff in the reference department.  The library is located at 526 Jersey in Downtown Quincy.  

You should also plan to stop by the County Courthouse at 521 Vermont in Downtown Quincy.  Copies of birth, marriage and death records, wills and land records are available at the Court House.

You might also find it helpful to stop by the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County located at the John Wood Mansion, 425 South 12th Street in Quincy. 

The LDS Family History Center is located at 905 Cardinal Terrace in Quincy.
