Tombstone Photography Project

"Show me your cemeteries, and I will tell you what kind of people you have."

Benjamin Franklin
 (1706 - 1790)

To mark Family History Month 2005, we are launching a Tombstone Photography Project.

The goal of the project is to provide photographs of  tombstones in Adams County Cemeteries.

The photographs are for research purposes only and are intended to assist family historians looking for their roots in Adams County.

Tombstones can be  valuable resources.  They can provide birth dates, death dates, maiden names, military info and other details useful in genealogy.

The photos were taken by Fred and Linda Lee.  Eric Lee assisted with the photography at Woodland Cemetery.  Judi Gilker gathered and organized obituaries and newspaper articles to accompany the photos.  If you find a tombstone of interest be sure to check the Obituary Index and the Newspaper Clipping Index for more information.

All tombstones in Burton, Franklin, Home and Mount Pleasant Cemeteries were photographed.  Some of the stones were weathered, damaged and difficult to identify. If you can provide information about any of the unidentified tombstones, please  email us.
